A collaborative linkblog
I’ve long had this idea that The Independent Variable would eventually become a more collaborative/collective linkblog à la Boing Boing–or maybe having the occasional guest editor/curator à la Kottke.
I occasionally put the idea out into the ether, but never wanted to bug people, so I never got any bites.
Eventually, I tried adding a “Submit link” button to the previous iteration on Blot, but that only ever got used by spammy self-promoters…
The lack of success with that model is what led me to building Foofaraw the way I did; I wanted a way to work on things collaboratively with people from all walks of life on the interwebs, and it’s worked out pretty well.
I’m ready to try again, though.
Now that TIV is on Ghost, and our host MagicPages allows unlimited Staff, the capabilities are all there, so there’s no reason not to give it the ol’ college try.
There’ll be a more formal announcement on the site with additional details and an “application form,” but if you’re interested in the idea and are reading this, you probably already have a way to get in touch.
Don’t hesitate if the idea is even a little bit intriguing—there’s no commitments or quotas or anything like that—just a place to share links and have fun.
